About Cal

I was born and raised in Hamilton, and Ward 10 has been home for 38 years. My wife, Teresa, and I raised our daughter, Amanda, here. Today, Amanda and her husband also live in Ward 10, where they raised their daughter.

A graduate of McMaster University, I spent my career as a senior executive with the Ontario Public Service, leading major initiatives and managing multimillion-dollar budgets.

​

As a corporate director, I led the successful transformation of province-wide programs and systems—identifying what was not working, developing better solutions and implementing changes that improved services, efficiency and value for taxpayers.

​

My accomplishments earned me the Amethyst Award, the Ontario Public Service’s highest recognition for exceptional leadership, achievement and excellence. I also was accredited by the CCI Leadership Institute in Ottawa. 

​

I believe that experience matters. As your City Councillor, I will bring the same focus on results, accountability and improvement to Ward 10 and City Hall.

I have worked with all levels of government. That experience taught me how to negotiate, build support and secure the resources and funding needed to get things done.

​

My professional experience also includes leadership and governance consulting with school boards, professional associations and organizations in the real estate and financial-services sectors, as well as professional mediation in complex corporate matters and disputes.

​

I have represented Ward 10 residents before municipal committees and at Ontario Municipal Board hearings, standing up for community interests when important decisions were being made.

​

For many years, I served as the elected Community Chair of the Stoney Creek Urban Boundary Expansion Advisory Committee—SCUBE. I worked alongside residents and stakeholders to ensure Winona, Fruitland and Stoney Creek had a strong voice in decisions shaping our future.

​

My involvement in this community did not begin with an election campaign. I have been speaking up, working with residents and advocating for Ward 10 for decades.

​

Most recently, I served as Chair of the City of Hamilton’s Election Compliance Audit Committee, which reviews compliance with municipal election legislation and campaign-finance rules.

​

In 2009, I founded and published The Hamiltonian, an independent source of local news, political commentary and community discussion. It published more than 3,500 articles and interviews on issues affecting Hamiltonians and operated as a public service without accepting money from individuals or organizations.

​

Through The Hamiltonian, I spent years asking tough questions, examining decisions at City Hall and encouraging informed public debate.

​

I am also a co-founder of the Fruitland-Winona-Stoney Creek Community Association for Safe and Healthy Neighbourhoods, a long-time Winona Peach Festival volunteer and a supporter of BrightRun, Juravinski Cancer Centre’s breast cancer fundraiser.

​

That cause is deeply personal to our family. Both my wife and daughter are breast cancer survivors, and supporting research, treatment and the search for a cure matters deeply to me.

​

These are only some highlights of my record of leadership, public service and community advocacy. I have spent years standing up for this community with integrity, independence and determination.

​

I am running because Ward 10 deserves experienced, capable and independent representation at City Hall. I bring experience, sound judgment and a proven record of delivering results—and I am ready to put that experience to work for you.
