Preamble
My platform is grounded in decades of living in Ward 10 and advocating for, and serving the people of Ward 10. It is also shaped by years of conversations with residents—including what I continue to hear at the doors throughout this campaign.
These platform priorities are more than campaign commitments. They reflect real concerns, as well as practical, strategic approaches to the issues facing our community. These committments are backed by the experience I have in successfully leading change, solving complex problems, strengthening accountability, and delivering results.
If elected, I am committed to use my experience, skills and represent Ward 10 as your City Councillor with respect and integrity.
Fiscal Responsibility and Protection of Your Tax Dollars
Taxes are a reality of life, but wasteful spending does not have to be.
As your Ward 10 Councillor, I will scrutinize city spending and ask the right and tough questions you deserve to have answered. For example: Is this necessary? Where is the evidence based research to justify the spending? Is it being managed properly? Are we getting value for our money? Where are the target outcomes and measurable results?
My experience as a senior executive with the Ontario Government, managing multi-million dollar budgets, overseeing forensic audits and my work helping organizations improve performance and identify gaps and shortfalls, has given me the expertise to successfully manage multi-million dollar budgets, expect accountability and focus resources where they produce results.
I will bring that same rigor and discipline to City Hall, and work to ensure that every tax dollar is respected and delivers tangible benefits to you, the people who pay them.
Safe and Healthy Communities. Better Quality of Life.
You have a right to feel safe in your home, on the streets, in your community, in parks and throughout neighbourhoods.
Break-ins, vehicle thefts, dangerous driving, guns and other serious crime cannot become things we learn to live with.
As your Ward 10 City Councillor, I will work with Hamilton Police Service, residents, neighbourhood organizations and other community partners to identify concerns, improve communication and advocate for resources and prevention strategies.
My experience as Director of Corrections for Ontario and Director of Youth Justice Services for Ontario has given me insight into the issues surrounding crime. My role serving as the elected Community Chair for the Stoney Creek Urban Boundary Expansion Advisory Committee (known as SCUBE), and my role as Co-Founder of the Fruitland-Winona-Stoney Creek Community Association for Safe and Healthy Neighbourhoods Inc., has given me unique opportunities to get to know the people who live and work in Ward 10 and the issues we face; a critical component in finding solutions.
A healthy community is about more than addressing crime.
It means clean and well-maintained neighbourhoods, safe roads, accessible recreation, parks and trails, opportunities for children and youth, services that respond to seniors, and public spaces where people feel comfortable, connected, and welcome.
It means bringing more opportunities, vibrancy, and life into Ward 10; things for people to see and do.
It means the opportunity for small business owners to thrive.
My years of experience and community involvement speaks volumes to my ability to bring people together and build stronger and supportive communities. These are important investments in our quality of life, and I will work to protect and improve them.
Responsible Growth. Community Input That Drives Decisions.
I have demonstrated where I stand on responsible growth.
As elected Community Chair for the Stoney Creek Urban Boundary Expansion Advisory Committee (known as SCUBE), I worked alongside residents, City staff , expert planners, developers and other stakeholders for years to develop a plan for growth that respected existing neighbourhoods while recognizing that our community would continue to grow.
When that work was unexpectedly changed by the City, I stood up for the community, including representing the Ward 10 community and residents before the Ontario Municipal Board.
Those efforts helped protect much of the character of our community, and demonstrated what can be accomplished when residents are organized, informed and prepared to stand up for their neighbourhoods.
I am not against development, provided it is done responsibly and with meaningful community engagement. Growth must fit within the community and be supported by appropriate infrastructure.
My years of leadership and hands-on involvement with Ward 10 and the Stoney Creek Urban Boundary Expansion Advisory Committee have given me extensive practical knowledge of how responsible development should work—and what can happen when proper planning, consultation and oversight are lacking.
Proper Infrastructure and Traffic Management
Growth and infrastructure must move together.
Roads, intersections, sidewalks, drainage, transit and other essential infrastructure should not be treated as an afterthought after development has occurred. When that happens, an unacceptable risk is posed to residents.
Ward 10 residents experience unsafe walking and bicycle conditions, flooding, traffic congestion, problem intersections and transportation bottlenecks, including trucks that use narrow roadways inappropriately . We need practical, evidence-based solutions that improve safety and allow people to move through our community safely and efficiently. We also need to safeguard our assets.
I will advocate for better traffic management, improvements to problem areas and infrastructure planning that anticipates growth rather than trying to catch up with it.
I will also advocate for durable, properly maintained roads. Residents should expect roads to be built and repaired properly and taxpayer dollars to be spent on solutions that last.
I have been instrumental in having truck traffic re-routed away from residential areas and have worked with police to ensure violations were addressed.
Holding City Hall Accountable – Good Governance
Good Governance = Better Government
Good governance means clear accountability, responsible oversight and measurable results. Council must know where tax dollars are going, whether projects are on time and on budget, and whether City programs are delivering the results residents were promised.
My professional experience in governance and organizational performance has taught me that problems are best identified before they become costly failures. As your Ward 10 City Councillor, I will ask the necessary questions, strengthen accountability and ensure decisions are measured against results.
You should not repeatedly be required to pay the price for poor planning, weak oversight or projects that go badly off course.
We have seen too many examples at City Hall where projects have experienced significant problems, costs have escalated and taxpayers have been left responsible for the significant consequences. Examples include the Cyber Attack and Mini Homes.
When the City's own Auditor identifies serious deficiencies, Council must learn from those findings and make sure the same mistakes are not repeated.
I believe in professional management: clear responsibility, measurable objectives, transparent reporting and accountability for results. I have demonstrated this work ethic and leadership style throughout my career. It is one of the reasons I was the recipient of the Ontario Public Service Amethyst Award, a prestigious award given for outstanding achievement and excellence in leadership and results.
Senior City management should know what is expected. Council should know whether those expectations are being met. And taxpayers should be able to see the results.
My professional career has given me extensive experience in governance, organizational performance, mediation and executive accountability. I will bring that experience to Council by asking the difficult questions while insisting on measurable results.
I will also advocate for the implementation of meaningful public-facing customer service standards so residents set the standard of what level of service they should expect when interacting with the City, how quickly they should receive a response and who is accountable when problems are not resolved.
Programs, Parks, Community Spaces and Services Everyone Can Enjoy
Fiscal responsibility does not mean neglecting the services and spaces that make Ward 10 a great place to live, work and enjoy life.
Our parks, recreation programs, libraries, trails, community facilities and public spaces are important to residents of every age. They support healthy living, bring people together and contribute directly to our quality of life.
I will support thoughtful investment in services and community spaces that are accessible, well maintained, well used and responsive to the changing needs of Ward 10. I will also protect the programs and amenities we already have that are serving residents well.
We must plan strategically and spend responsibly, while recognizing that wise investment in our community strengthens neighbourhoods and improves everyday life.
My many years of volunteering in Ward 10 have shown me firsthand how strong communities are built—by people supporting one another, creating opportunities, and ensuring people's needs are met.
Through my work leading the transformation of Youth Justice Services across Ontario, I saw the importance of investing in young people by providing positive alternatives, meaningful opportunities and the supports they need to succeed.
I also believe strongly in supporting our seniors, respecting their dignity and recognizing the invaluable experience, wisdom and contributions they bring to our community.
A strong Ward 10 is one where families and people of every generation have the opportunity to participate, contribute and thrive.
Making Sure Ward 10 Gets Its Fair Share of City Investment
City resources are limited, and every ward is competing for investment. Ward 10 needs a Councillor who understands our community, listens to its residents, and knows how to make a strong, evidence-based case for the funding and resources we need.
I believe residents should have a meaningful voice in setting Ward 10’s priorities. I will actively engage with you, listen to your ideas and concerns, and create opportunities for residents to provide input on the investments and improvements that matter most. That input will help shape the priorities and direction I carry forward to Council.
Having spent years advocating for Ward 10, I understand many of the challenges and opportunities facing our community. I will combine that local knowledge with what I hear directly from residents to advocate effectively for our fair share of investment in roads, infrastructure, recreation, community facilities, services and other priorities that affect our quality of life.
My executive experience in government, combined with my executive consulting experience in the private sector, has given me a strong command of budgets, business cases, value-for-money analysis, strategic planning and investment decision-making. I know how to scrutinize proposals, strengthen the case for funding, identify measurable returns and make persuasive, evidence-based arguments for investment.
I will bring those skills to City Hall to ensure Ward 10 is well positioned, well represented and equipped to secure its fair share of City investment.
There is no replacement for having the experience, knowledge and skills attained through years of executive leadership in government and in the private sector.
